Italian Singer, Tony Di Marti is a born entertainer.
At the age of 5, when asked by an adult “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Tony would reply : I want to be a singer !!

But when you are born and you grow up in a small village in Calabria (Casignana, province of Reggio Calabria) south of beautiful Italy, you don’t get that opportunity easily. Although Tony started singing and won his first talent quest in his home town at the age of 7, things didn’t really take off until the age of 16 when Tony migrated to Australia in 1980 with his family to join relatives.

There Tony started from the bottom of the ladder, and grew up to be the leading Italian singer in Australia today. “Passion and love for what you do is undoubtly the key to anyone’s success” (says Tony). You got to love what you do and put your heart and soul into it. Although singing is evidently Tony’s passion, he also has fun writing songs between concerts , and one of the many songs Tony has written, has made him famous not only in Australia, but also in Canada, USA, and many other countries where his cd’s have reached.

Of course that song is : “Coming to Australia” also known in Italian as “Vi’ ch’e’ bella L’Australia”, a funny send up of how Italians live and behave in Australia. You know (says Tony), they have the double storey house in Five Dock, the tomatoes in the backyard, the concreted front yards and patios, the tiled garage, the lounge that no one is allowed to go into (that one is for when the Pope will visit), and at the end of the journey, almost everyone of them ends up at the Italian nursing homes “Scalabrini Villages” not of their own accord, but because their kids take them there !! The song is a reflection of them. It’s a funny but sad reality, but at least they can laugh at themselves.

“I could never imagine it was going to be such a hit said Tony, to me it was just a funny song, something to laugh at”. Today, after 28 years of career and contact with the Italian community of Australia, Tony has acquired the experience that puts him on par with other big names of the Italian music world, such as Mino Reitano, Massimo Ranieri, Toto Cutugno, Luciano Tajoli, Nicola Di Bari and many others that Tony had the honour of singing with.

His talent has recently brought him off shores, in Canada and USA. There, the immense Italian community has welcomed Tony on many occasions since May 2007, when he touched Canadian soil for the first time. In August of 2007, Tony was invited as a special guest at Canada’s Wonderland (Toronto) for the TeleLatino Network Italian Festa.

Soon after, Tony presented his songs to the Italians of Springfield (Massachussetts)
where he was spotted by a New York promoter. In December 2007 his concerts in Montreal, (organised by Emi Vision Entertainment), were sold out. In July 2008 Tony was requested in Boston (Italia Unita Festa), and subsequentely at New York (Brooklyn), Toronto, and the Thunder Bay “Festa Italiana”, where more than 10,000 people attended to watch his show. In November of 2008 by overwhelming demand Tony returned to Montreal for 3 more shows at the Centro Leonardo da Vinci, again with Montreal’s leading impresario’s Emi Vision Entertainment.

Tony Di Marti is extremely versatile and also multilingual. He sings in English, Italian, Spanish and French. He truly has a gift and the ability to entertain and bring people together. His mastered voice and ability to read the crowd is unsurpassed. His repertoire is immense and it ranges from the old classical Italian favourites to the latest top 40 Italian, international and Latin American music. As well as covers, Tony has a growing list of original songs, which has won the approval of his audience.

So far Tony has released 9 cd’s which include a mixture of old favourites, original songs and boppy modern tunes. But when asked which are his favourites on any cd, he replied: Coming to Australia and L’uccellino della comare, without a doubt !! By popular demand his songs are often given air play on the Italian Radio Network “Rete Italia”, Australia’s Italian radio.

To date, Tony continues to entertain and stun the audience of every function or festival he is called to, in whichever corner of the world. His dream is realised. He is a singer, and he proves to be an amazing one, every time he goes on stage !!
